Vintage treasure hunting in Tokyo
Ahh, Tokyo... The city where cars look like milk cartons, where literally everything is made cute (kawaii), even the roadblocks are cute and shaped like pink bunnies. There's a vending machine on every street corner, sometimes with the craziest things, from macarons to fried insects. Everything is spotlessly clean and organized, and the people are incredibly friendly. What's not to love?

Tokyo is a vibrant city, a blend of modernity and tradition. The streets are overwhelmingly busy and colorful, teeming with advertising and people. But walk just one street further, and it feels like you're walking through a tranquil village.
And I haven't even mentioned the vintage. Tokyo was truly vintage heaven! It was amazing to discover vintage clothing in a country with such a rich culture and history. I saw a lot of traditional clothing like silk kimonos, but there were also American influences, like baseball jackets and other sportswear.
This is also reflected in the inspiring streetscape. From cool, oversized street style to cute, kawaii outfits—skirts with socks and platform shoes. And from chic and modest in neutral trench coats to lavishly colorful and traditional, the Japanese are super stylish with an enormous diversity of styles.

With this wonderful inspiration, I began my vintage hunt. The first few days, the rain poured down, perfect weather for treasure hunting! The narrow streets of Harajuku and the bustling shopping streets of Shinjuku were my playground. While in Paris I often have to rummage through a sea of fast fashion and worn-out items for vintage gems, the selection in the Japanese stores was truly magnificent.

So much beauty; kimonos, colorful dresses, lots of silk items, and even the polyester was of the finest quality. I'm generally not the biggest fan of polyester, but the Japanese versions are truly in a different league. With woven patterns and crepe textures, it feels more refined and is more like polyester was originally intended to be: like rayon. After hours of carefully browsing the racks in every store, I selected the most beautiful pieces and, with my suitcase full of Japanese jewelry, I returned to Paris.
